Caherlistrane GAAHISTORY

Caherlistrane’s continued success stems from the extraordinary commitment of its many volunteers and is underpinned by a strong sense of history with many generations of the same families involved in the club and tracing their Gaelic Games pedigrees in the area back to the foundation of the club in the 19th century. Since then the club has thrived at the heartbeat of the communities of Caherlistrane and Kilcoona with many new families bringing a new sense of identity and history for the club. Caherlistrane GAA Club is proud to be one of the oldest established Gaelic Football clubs in Galway. The clubs one success in the Galway Senior Football Championship came in 1890. In recent times, the club has looked to bridge this long gap, reaching the semi-finals in 2008. In 2006, the senior team reached the 2006 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship Final but lost to Inniskeen Grattan's of Monaghan.

Caherlistrane GAASuccess on the field

Through the massive commitment from volunteers and parents, the efforts of training structures and systems that have been put in place can be seen to reap reward on the playing field. Just recently our u12 boys teams have reached the A and B county finals, winning the A final and narrowly losing the B final. Last year our Senior adult team won promotion to the senior football league 1 and compete in the senior football Championship. We strive as a club to play at the highest level within our age groups. With over 250 players, the club has over 14 teams from underage to adult, along with a dedicated ladies club.

The club is well represented at county level with Cein D’Arcy a member of the Galway senior panel; Liam Judge a member of the Galway u-20 panel; and Jonathan McGrath and Kyle O’Neill part of the Galway minor panel. Whilst in recent times Cormac Bane was a prominent member of the Galway county team winning a Connacht Championship medal in 2008.

Our Junior Academy on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings goes from strength to strength catering for u6 and u8 girls and boys. With the enthusiastic support of committed Parents and Mentors, it augurs well for the future of Gaelic Games in Caherlistrane.
